Information on Almunecar:Almunecar is located on the Costa Tropical coast line and is a small town full of history. Rentals in Spain well you can stay in the beautiful Lecrin valley and be with in visiting distance of Almunecar. Renting a villa on the coast can be hard to find also most people don't seem to appreciate the coast comes alive at around 10pm. When most British people are thinking about going to bed the Spanish are just starting their evening which tends to go on to 5am, so think about the possible noise. From the lecrin valley when driving to Almunecar you head for Motril and on reaching the coast road you turn right. Drive past Solebrena which has a castle on top of the hill and the white washed houses below it. The next town you come across is Almunecar, first impression it doesn’t seem anything special and you may even feel it’s a bit run down. Don’t be fooled as Almunecar has so much to offer, this is one of the main sea side towns the Spanish descend on for their August holidays. Almunecar has a long history, for those interested in the history, As you walk around the town you will see the various Roman remains from viaducts to what is believed to be a roman bath house, as well as the Roman salt fish market. On the high ground you have castle San Miguel which looks down on the town and coast line. Peel of the roads and go down the paths behind the buildings and your greeted by small shops selling various products. There’s something special and more personal as you walk along the paths looking at the shops, you can feel the atmosphere and as you turn around another corner your greeted by another surprise. Lots of bars and tiny squares where you can sit outside and have a drink and eat the famous tapes that are provided. Various types of music can be heard as the musicians roam from bar to bar playing their music. You can’t help but fall in love with the charm of Almunecar with an abundance of restaurants to choose from with in the town and along the sea front.Almunecar has three main beaches which have all been up graded as the town makes a real effort to create lovely surroundings to relax in having planted quite a few palm trees along the beach. Parts of the beach you will see the fisherman’s boats as they row out to fish late in the day. Paragliders can often be seen as they float overhead looking for updrafts. Dolphins can be seen swimming off shore in the turquoise sea where the sun reflects on the ripples of the waves. Almunecar has a large market day that takes place every Friday by the main road next to the centre traffic lights. The indoor fish market takes place Monday - Friday and is well worth looking at to see the assortment of sea food available.There is also a very large water park in Almunecar which caters for all ages, they also have catering on site and with out a doubt this is a good day out. Well it's actually not a boat but a building, built to look like a boat.The Almunecar festival takes place in the week that leads up to the 15th August with a real carnival atmosphere as there is a fun fair located in the outdoor market area next to the Malaga to Almeria road. This is a busy period for Almunecar with most Spanish people flocking to this town for their holidays. The town Almunecar is alive with activity, with all types of music being played live through out the town and on the sea front. You can see red Indians dancing to their music (honest) as well as music from the Andes. People through out the region make their way to Almunecar. The climax is on the last day towards midnight when there is a very large firework display on the sea front by the castle that would make any city proud of the display.
