Mountains in the summer

Skiing
Skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains is about one hours drive from the valley. The Prado Llano resort has about 19 lifts and 61km of Pistas. Skiing season starts in mid December and goes on to late May. There is excellent access to the resort along new roads and plenty of car parking. The resort contains a lovely central plaza with plenty of shops and resturants. You are able to hire ski and buy passes in the resort or in Granada.
The resort also offer tobogganing and rubber ring sledging.
The area is also lovely to visit in the summer, with lovely walks in the mountains in the clear cool summer air, beautiful views of the surrounding area.

The ski resort of Sol y Nieve is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalucia. It is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and is small in comparison to other European resorts, even so, the resort hosted the 1996 world ski championships.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort has numerous runs of varying difficulties to satisfy all skiing desires. Natural snow is supplemented by snow cannons on some runs. Being so far south, many skiers are pleasantly surprised to find the air temperature is usually warmer than other resorts.

There is an surprisingly active nightlife in the Sierra Nevada resort. Spaniards have a reputation for being 'night owls' and this can be witnessed even in a skiing resort. are particularly busy.

The resort closes for skiing 22nd April. However it is still a lovely place to visit in the summer where plentiful walks can be taken away from the blazing heat of the spanish summer. Some ski lifts and restaurants remain open

Coast of costa Tropical

house114.jpg

Costa Tropical
The Costa Tropical is a wonderful pictureque coastline just 30 minutes down excellent roads from the valley.
This region is not as crowed as the other costa's and much easier to get away from the crowds. The mountains run right down to the coast,  which is made up of a series of pretty coves.
The main towns are at La Herradura which is lovely and unspoilt located between two promontories of Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo. The whitewashed  village of Salobrena is also near by with its fantastic moorish castle on the hill top, giving the area an impressive back drop, the lovely beach spreads below. There are also numerous attractions at the town of Almunecar including a friday market.
In between the towns are proctective coves and marina such at Punta de la Mona, the Marina del Este yacht habour which offers numerous watersports and scuba diving and lovely restaurants.
Beaches on this coast are great all year round, in the summer the beach bars open, sunbeds are set out and paddle boats and jetski's are available. In the winter months the beaches are enjoyed by walkers, joggers and fisherman although sunbathing is still sometimes possible on the frequent blue sky non windy days.
